Art 1 Course Description: Art 1 is open to all students who desire an introduction to the study of art and participation in art tasks. This course explores the 4 aspects of Art: Production, Aesthetics, History/Culture and Criticism.
Objective1-The student will become familiar with the elements of art and principles of design as they relate to specific studio projects.
Objectiv2-The student will develop an understanding of the relationship between an object’s design and function and the materials used to create it.
Objectiv3-The student will understand the importance of quality craftsmanship in producing a successfully functioning work of art.
Objective 4- The student will use time-honored methods to create objects of both a traditional and innovative nature.
Objective 5- The student will become competent in working with a variety of art materials and processes.
Objective6- The student will demonstrate appropriate and responsible use of tools and materials.
Objective7- The student will distinguish between functional and fine art.
Course Fees: $25.00
Attendance:
This is a studio class requiring completion of projects using materials and tools in the room. Your attendance is critical to the completion of quality work. Each student is expected to arrange to make up time and work in the event of absences.
Guidelines for Success:
1. Be on time.
2. Use time wisely and work productively in class each day.
3. Show respect to others and their work.
4. Clean up your work area.
Grading:
Students will be graded for their use of studio time and the completion of assigned projects which will demonstrate and document their learning and artistic development during the semester. There are opportunities provided at all levels for students to complete Quality Work.
